Leslie Jackson was born in Hyde, Cheshire in March 1900 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in January 1916. Having then attended the training establishment Powerful, he served in the battleship H.M.S. Swiftsure from August 1916 to April 1917, and in the cruiser King Alfred from August 1917 to May 1918. He was demobilised in August 1921, after tansferring to the Stoker’s Branch and gaining advancement to Stoker 1st Class.
