Charles James Gibson was born at Clevedon, Somerset, on 15 April 1880, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 14 June 1895. From May 1914 to October 1916 Gibson was serving aboard H.M.S. Cumberland, taking part in the Cameroon operations in 1914, when she captured 10 German merchant ships. He was noted for War services in the Cameroon operations and commended for work done in connexion with the alterations of Cumberland’s Gunnery Dept., August to December 1914. He later served aboard the Marlborough and was demobilized on 29 April 1920. Sold with copy record of service.
