Allan Charles Houghton, who was born in Hyde, Cheshire, was killed in action on 1 July 1916, while serving in the 8th Battalion, the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry - his unit sustained total casualties of 539 men. He is buried in the Blighty Valley Cemetery, Authuile Wood on the Somme; sold with an informative article copied from The North Cheshire Herald of 12 August 1916.
