Pair: Captain Robert Harding, Gardiner’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery

Military General Service 1793-1814, 5 clasps, Salamanca, Vittoria, St. Sebastian, Orthes, Toulouse (Lieut. R. Arty.); Waterloo 1815 (Lieut., Royal Horse Artillery) fitted with original steel clip and ring suspension, the second with light marks to obverse, otherwise good very fine (2) £4000-4500

Robert Harding was born in 1791, fourth son of John Harding, of Old Springs, Co. Stafford. He joined the Royal Artillery as Second Lieutenant on 6 June 1806, becoming First Lieutenant on 6 April 1807. He served with Gardiner’s “E” Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, in the Peninsula from August 1811 until the end of the war in 1814, including the battles of Salamanca and Vittoria, the siege of San Sebastian, and battles of Orthes and Toulouse. He served also in the campaign of 1815 and was present at the battle of Waterloo. He retired on half-pay as Second Captain on 17 October 1823, and died on 12 November 1849.
