The Armistice, bringing to a close the Great War, was signed on 11 November 1918. The medal first became available on 1 November 1928. Available in two sizes, 76mm. and 32mm., and in gold, silver and bronze; the price charged for the large silver medal (above) was £1.10.0. In the Mint Report for 1927 it was recorded that 547 large silver medals had been sold; 6,822 medals in total. Such was the demand for the medals, that in 1929 a further 1,141 medals were struck, in various sizes and metals, making the total issuance of 7,963 (Ref. B.H.M. 4131; Eimer 2008a).

Major Guy William Duberly, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, was killed in action on 13 March 1915. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. On the C.W.G.C. website and published casualty roll, the name is given as ‘Grey William Duberly’.
