George Whiting was born in Barwood, Gloucestershire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for service with the Royal Artillery at Gloucester on 11 December 1891, aged 18 years, 3 months. In February 1892 he was transferred as a Driver in the Royal Horse Artillery and in September 1894 was ranked as a Gunner. With the R.H.A. he served in India, October 1894-August 1900; China, August 1900-September 1901; India, September 1901-April 1913. In 1910 he was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. together with a gratuity of £5. Having attained the rank of Corporal in 1908, he was discharged on 20 April 1913, intending to live at 55 Ryecroft Street, Gloucester. Sold with copied service papers.
