Earl William Bancroft was taken prisoner at Witkopjes on 18 April 1901. As reported back in London on the 28th, the Boers ‘captured after a severe fight 25 men of the Prince of Wales’s Light Horse, whom they stripped of their horses and accoutrements and then liberated.’
