Reverend J. P. Doherty was born in August 1910, being commissioned into the R.A.F. Chaplains Department in June 1941. He served as a Roman Catholic Chaplain until the time of his retirement in 1966, at which time he held the rank of Wing Commander (retaining the relative rank of Group Captain).
