Memorial Plaque (2) (Arthur Henry Surman; Walter Twitchett) first with some corrosion, nearly very fine and better (2) £60-80

Arthur Henry Surman lived at Eltham, Kent and enlisted at Blackheath. Serving as a Serjeant in the 20th Battalion London Regiment, he died of wounds at Aylesbury Military Hospital on 1 November 1916, aged 23 years. A newspaper report states that Surman was wounded in action on the Somme some 6 weeks previously. He was buried in Eltham Churchyard. He was the son of John Lestock and Lily Surman of 274 New Cross Road, New Cross, London. Sold with copied research.

Walter Twitchett was born in Rotherhithe, Surrey, lived in Brixton and enlisted at Camberwell. Serving with the 1st/20th Battalion London Regiment, he was killed in action on 1 October 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. One other with the same name on the C.W.G.C. List.
