This lot was sold as part of a special collection, The Collection of Medals to the Cheshire and Manchester Regiments, Rifle Brigade and Royal Green Jackets formed by the late David Boniface.

Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in August 1914, Cooke went out to France with the 1/6th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, in November. Moving into positions in the frontline in the following month, the Battalion participated in the famous “Christmas Truce”.
