Edward Arthur Neave was born on 2 August 1883. He went to South Africa as a young man and served as a trooper with the Natal Police in the Boer War, and subsequently in the Natal rebellion of 1906. He served with the 2nd South African Mounted Rifles during the Great War and was with the 3rd S.A.M.R. at the time of receiving his L.S. & G.C. medal in 1920. He eventually retired to live at Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, and died on 4 August 1960, aged 77.
