Samuel Wyatt Blight was born on 3 August 1895, at Modbury, Devon. He enlisted into the Devon R.G.A. in September 1914, transferred to the Royal Flying Corps as a Gunner in July 1916, and transferred to the R.A.F. as a Corporal Mechanic in April 1918, becoming a Sergeant in March 1919. He served overseas in Iraq from March 1920; in Egypt from March 1922; and at Constantinople from April 1923 to October 1924. He served briefly at the Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment at Felixtowe before being promoted to Warrant Officer in May 1934, and posted shortly afterwards to No. 26 (Army Co-operation) Squadron at Catterick. He was commissioned as an Engineer Officer (C.E.O.) in October 1936, being based at Wyton, Huntingdonshire with Bomber Command, and later promoted to Squadron Leader in June 1941, and Wing Commander in January 1943. He held various appointments with the Air Ministry, much of his service during the war being taken up with the Directorate of Accident and Disposal. He retired as Wing Commander on 20 December 1944, and died at Bigbury-on-Sea, Devon, on 30 December 1952, aged 57. Sold with full research.
