William George Smith was born in and enlisted at Basingstoke, Hampshire. As a Corporal in the Hampshire Regiment he entered the Asiatic theatre of war on 18 March 1915. Serving with the 1/4th Battalion he died in Mesopotamia on 30 April 1917. He was buried in the Haidar Pasha Cemetery, Turkey. With copied m.i.c.
