Memorial Plaque 1914-18 (Charles Henry McAuley) in card envelope, extremely fine £50-70

Charles Henry McAuley was born in Ottawa on 19 December 1892. Being employed at the Ottawa Dairy and serving with the 2nd P.L.D.I. Militia, he attested for service with the regular forces on 28 December 1914. He was transferred to overseas service with the 8th Infantry Brigade and landed in France and was taken on to the strength of the 4th Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles (Central Ontario Regiment) in January 1916. In action on 3 June 1916, he suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was invalided to 13 General Hospital, Boulogne and thence to Fort Pitt Military Hospital, Chatham. Making a recovery from his wounds and remaining in England, he was briefly in Shorncliffe Hospital with tonsilitis in July 1917 and then was seriously ill with appendicitis at 12 Canadian General Hospital at Bramshott in July 1918. He died at Basingstoke General Hospital of Pleurisy and Pelvic Abscess on 11 January 1919. He was buried in the Basingstoke (Worthing Road) Cemetery.
