James O’Leary was born on 1 May 1875. From Kilmaley, Co. Clare and a Farmer by occupation, he joined the Dublin Metropolitan Police on 8 February 1895. He was commended three times during his career on the force, for ‘Stopping a runaway horse’; for ‘Prosecuting a person for cruelty to animals’, and for ‘Special Police services in 1913’. He retired with a pension on 1 October 1923 and died on 10 March 1940. Sold with copied service details.
