John McPherson was born in Invernesshire, Scotland. He served with Lovat’s Scouts in the Second Boer War; the Natal Rangers during the Natal Rebellion 1906, and the South African Irish Regiment during the German South West Africa campaign. He attested for the 9th South African Infantry at Potchefstroom on 14 December 1915 and was discharged on 30 January 1917. McPherson then attested for the 4th South African Infantry at Potchefstroom on 12 February 1917. He was discharged whilst at Tempe Hospital on 6 August 1918, being permanently unfit for General War Service. He died on 11 June 1920 and was buried the next day at Rooidam Cemetery, Tempe, Bloemfontein. Sold with some copied service papers.
