Ernest George Cuddon was born in Howe, Norwich, on 26 September 1881. From the Training Ship Warspite he entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in June 1897, becoming a Boy 1st Class in March 1898. He was promoted to Ordinary Seaman when on the armoured cruiser Orlando in September 1899 and advanced to Able Seaman on the same ship in February 1901. As part of the ship’s company he was awarded the China Medal with clasp for Taku Forts. As a Leading Seaman he was discharged ashore in June 1905 and joined the Portsmouth Battalion R.F.R., re-enrolling in September 1911. He was mobilized in the Great War, serving firstly as an Able Seaman, then as a Leading Seaman at various shore bases. Cuddon was finally demobilized on 4 June 1921. Sold with copied service papers.
