Edward Francis Dease (†1883) came to Tasmania in the early 1840s and in 1851 established his drapery business which he called The Golden Fleece; he sold the business in 1862. Reuben Josephs (1790-1862) was convicted of receiving stolen goods and sentenced to 14 years’ transportation in October 1827. He arrived in Tasmania in July 1828 and was joined later that year by his wife Dina as a free settler. Freed in November 1841, he settled at Liverpool street, Hobart, and subsequently leased New Town Toll Gate from 1852-5 and 1857
