12th (Prince of Wales’s) Royal Lancers, an extremely fine and rare officer’s 1846 pattern lance cap, the skull of black patent leather with similar turned up back peak, this and the skull complete with all gold lace embellishments, the broad waist with gold and crimson silk band, the trencher top 21.5cm and covered with crimson cloth and gold orris cord cross bands, the large gold bullion rosette with a crimson velvet face bearing a gold bullion ‘VR’ cypher, correct provision for the plume through the trencher top, heavy gilt chinchain velvet lined and with large lion’s mask supports, the large gilt fluted rayed plate bearing silver mounts comprising the Prince of Wales’s crest and motto over the Royal Arms, these with mantling and sprays of oak and laurel below the motto a Sphinx with plinth Egypt additional furled gilt scrolls ‘Waterloo’ and ‘Peninsula’, red leather sweat band mostly present and remains only of a white linen lining no plume or holder; together with a gold lace set of aiguilette style cap lines, the patent skull crazed and skull lace has suffered from poor cleaning at some stage otherwise a very good example for the period (2) £4500-5000
