An unusual custom built solid-patent tang cavalry officer's fighting sword by Reeves, the heavy curved 90cm blade struck on the back edge 'Reeves patent' single wide fuller, back-edged and spear-pointed, undecorated but for a retailers name within a cartouche 'Milan & Mann, George St. Edinburgh’, steel bowl guard pierced through with a maltese cross, simple linear decoration following the shape of the cross and bordering the edge of the guard, two slots to the back, ribbed polished horn or vulcanite grip plaques rivetted to the solid tang, complete with its steel scabbard with two hanging rings, minor dents to scabbard otherwise good condition overall £350-450

This sword is obviously based on the 1864 pattern troopers sword with some variations, presumably made to the special order of a cavalry officer as a fighting sword, plain undecorated blades were popular with officers serving in India, and it is interesting to note that William Stephen Raikes Hodson of Hodson's Horse whose sword is now in the NAM is basically a copy of an 1821 pattern troopers sword.
