A good 1796 pattern infantry officer’s sword, the straight 82cm blade retaining approx 75% of its blue and gilt decoration, incorporating crowned GR cypher, Royal Arms etc., copper-gilt regulation hilt, folding side guard, the urn shaped facetted pommel and quillon chased with acanthus, wood grip bound with silver wire, hilt mounts retaining almost all original gilding, and original red and gold bullion sword knot, complete with its blind tooled black leather scabbard with three copper-gilt mounts, the chape unusually fitted with a small cut-steel shoe, scabbard mounts again retaining almost all original gilding, minor wear to scabbard and small repair to stitching otherwise good condition overall £550-600
