A Great War Al Valore Militare group of three awarded to Pioneer G. S. Page, Royal Engineers

British War and Victory Medals
(211590 Pnr., R.E.); Italy, Al Valore Militare, bronze, with crowned ‘Z’ and ‘F.G’ below wreath, rev. inscribed, ‘Pioneer G. S. Page, Piave - Ottobre 1918’, this in case of issue, minor edge bruising, nearly extremely fine (3) £300-350

Sold with original citation of award for the Al Valore Militare, addressed to Pioneer George Stephen Page of the 23rd Divisional Signal Company, R.E., attached 69th Brigade Signal Section, R.E., and signed by A. B. Beauman, Brigadier-General Commanding the 69th Infantry Brigade. The citation reads:

‘On 27th October 1918 while crossing the Piave Pioneer Page showed conspicuous bravery under heavy fire. After carrying his own load across he devoted himself to helping others who found their drums of cable too heavy, fearlessly exposing himself the whole time to an intense M.G. fire. Subsequently he was placed in charge of a forward section of telephone line which was continually being cut by shell fire; his maintainance was so successful that communications were rarely interrupted for more than a few minutes’.

Also with original ‘Medals’ registered envelope, addressed to ‘Mr G. S. Page, 4 Abbey St., Derby’.
