Three: Second Lieutenant J. Riddell, I.A.R.O., 3rd attached 2nd Queen Alexandra’s Own Gurka Rifles, killed in action, 6 September 1915

2nd Lieutenant James Riddell, Indian Army Reserve of Officers, 3rd, attached 2nd Queen Alexandra’s Own Gurkha Rifles, was killed in action on 6 September 1915, aged 29 years. The regimental War Diary records that at ‘Harrow Road’ near Neuve Chapelle, ‘2 Lt. J. Riddell killed in working party in front line by rifle bullet.’ Riddell was buried in the Rue-du-Bacquerot No.1 Military Cemetery, Laventie. He was the son of James and Sarah Smith Riddell of Wishaw. Sold with copied m.i.c., war diary extract and C.W.G.C. entry.
