Arthur Hoy was born in East Hartlepool and enlisted at Stockton. Serving with the 18th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 1 July 1916 - the first day of the battle of the Somme. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
