William Bernard Ruddock was born on 13 November 1862. He served in the ranks of the Supply and Transport Department in the Indian Army and, at length, attained the rank of Conductor. He was commissioned on 18 December 1914 and gained the rank of Major on 21 September 1917. In the 1919 Indian Army List he is shown as a Major in the Supply and Transport Corps, Bombay. Prior to his service in the Great War, he served actively in Burma, 1893-94, the N.W. Frontier of India, 1987-98 and Aden, 1903-04.
Major Ruddock was the father of 2nd Lieutenant W. B. Ruddock, R.E., late R.M. and Private C. K. Ruddock, 14th Hussars - both these medal groups formed lot 959 in D.N.W. auction 23 June 2005.
