Memorial Plaque 1914-18 (James Thirtle) very fine £120-160
James Thirtle was born in Horton, Northumberland and enlisted at Alnwick. Serving as Private 23/1571 in the 20th (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on the 1st day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
