Memorial Plaque 1914-18 (Alvin Holroyd) good very fine £100-140

Alvin Holroyde enlisted at Wakefield. Serving as Private 201707 in the 1st/4th Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on the 1st day of the battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916, aged 20 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. He was the son of Henry Holroyd of 2 Intake Lane, Stanley Lane End, Stanley, Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Note: the CWGC lists several other ‘A. Holroyds’.
