H.M.S. Merlin was a steel screw sloop. 135 officers and men of the ship were entitled to the clasp.
Elias Mann, the son of Elias and Emma A. Mann of Plymouth, served in the Boxer Rebellion and Somaliland Campaign 1902-04. As the Chief Shipwright (Pensioner) serving aboard the 1st class cruiser Argonaut, he died on 22 June 1915, aged 45 years. He was buried in the Funchal British Cemetery, Madeira. He was the husband of Sarah Gilberd Mann, of 38 Barton Avenue, Keyham, Devonport.
