John Henry Mead was born in Kingstaignton, near Newton Abbot, Devon, on 11 September 1869. A Labourer by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 23 December 1884. He was advanced to Boy 1st Class whilst on Impregnable in April 1886, and was promoted to Ordinary Seaman on the Agincourt in September 1887 and Able Seaman in April 1891 when on the Pelican. Having transferred to the R.F.R. before the Great War, he was mobilised in November 1914 and served on Hildebrand, December 1914-February 1918. He was demobilised in February 1919. Sold with copied service papers and roll extract.
