Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 1 clasp, Relief of Ladysmith (2994 Pte. L. Skelly, 1st Connaught Rang.) good very fine £180-220

Laurence Skelly was born in Bristol, Gloucestershire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for service in the Connaught Rangers at Galway on 7 July 1888, aged 19 years, 11 months. With them he served in Malta, July 1889-February 1895 and Egypt, February-November 1895 and was transferred to the Army Reserve on 1 November 1895. Recalled to the colours for service in the Boer War, he served in South Africa from 10 November 1899 to 2 June 1900. He was discharged on 6 July 1901 upon the termination of his limited period of engagement. Sold with copied service papers. Scarce single clasp to Imperial troops.
