New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated ‘1863 to 1864’ (G. T. Ward, Gunrs. Mate, H.M.S. Miranda) good very fine £400-450
Sold with a few biographical and some campaign details. The gunners of H.M. Ships Esk and Miranda were mentioned in General Sir Duncan Cameron’s despatches for the ‘extraordinary precision of their fire from the 12-pounder Armstrongs’ during the action at Tauranga, April 1864. Men of the Miranda were also involved in the action at Gate Pa. 92 medals with the date ‘1863 to 1864’ awarded to officers and men of the ship.
