Hyderabad 1843 (Cornet E. F. Moore, 3rd Lt. Cavy.), engraved naming, replacement steel clip and straight bar suspension, some edge bruising, good very fine £600-700

Edward Francis Moore was born in the Parish of Blackwatertown, Co. Tyrone, in 1825. The son of Lieutenant Edward and Anne Moore, he was educated at Kensington Grammar School, Dungannon. After the death of his father, he was nominated for H.E.I.Co. service by his uncle, Sir William Young, Bart, who was a director of the East India Company. Admitted to the service, he sailed in H.M.S. Oriental from Falmouth on 2 May 1842, arriving at Bombay on 8 June 1842. Posted initially to the H.Q. of the Horse Brigade at Poona, he was transferred to the 1st Light Cavalry later in June and in October he transferred to the 3rd Light Cavalry. Moore served in the Scinde Campaign of 1843 and was engaged at Hyderabad. He died in Hyderabad on 1 November 1843, aged 18 years. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
