Ghuznee 1839 (Richd. Rolls, 16th Dragns.), named in impressed capitals on reverse, fitted with replacement straight bar suspension, minor edge bruising, good very fine £550-600

Richard Rolls was born in the Parish of Wanfrith, near the town of Coombe in Dorset, in 1799. He attested for unlimited service with the 16th Lancers at Weymouth on 5 December 1820. Serving in India from 1822, he was present with his regiment at Bhurtpore under Lord Combermere in 1826, and is listed as having volunteered for a storming party. He then served with the Army of the Indus through the campaign in Afghanistan, and was present at the assault of Ghuznee in 1839 under Lord Keane. Latterly suffering from hepatitis he was returned to England in June 1841 and was discharged at his own request on 3 August 1841. His character was that of a very good soldier, trustworthy and sober, and at his discharge had attained two badges for good conduct. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
