Military General Service 1793-1814, 7 clasps, Roleia, Vimiera, Corunna, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Orthes, Toulouse (J Laverton, 71st Foot) small erasure after initial, otherwise very fine £1800-2000

James Laverton was born at Inverness and enlisted at Stirling for the 71st Highland Light Infantry, aged 14, for ‘Life’. He served in the Peninsula and at Waterloo and was discharged at Fermoy on 20 October 1822, being ‘worn out from length of service’. John Winterscale, the Assistant Surgeon of the 71st, said in his report, ‘Has been in the Regiment for upwards of 25 years, the last 17 of which he was constantly employed on active service - is now discharged in consequence of his length of service.’ Sold with copy discharge papers.
