Cavalry officer‘s sword, a scarce 1887 pattern heavy cavalry sword for an officer of the 21st (Empress of India’s) Lancers, the 89cm blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, No.38049, etched with reversed and intwined crowned VR cypher, foliage, etc., regimental device of crowned VRI and crossed lances, single battle honour for ‘Khartoum’, owners initials ‘JRT’ within cartouche, regulation pierced steel scroll guard, chequered pommel, fish-skin covered grip bound with silver wire, leather field service sword knot, complete with its steel scabbard, minor service wear overall, otherwise good condition £500-600

Wilkinson proof books record sword No 38049 ‘Reg cavalry‘ sold to J R Torrens 2nd June 1900.

James Robert Torrens was commissioned into the 21st Lancers in 1900.
