Parchment certificate for the admission of “Monsieur le Major Général Sir John French” to be a Grand Officier de l’Order National de la Légion d’Honneur, by a decree of 12th August 1903. The fine, attractive pre-printed parchment, 54x43cm, with an intricate decorative border and image of the insignia of the order, is completed with Sir John French’s rank and name in bold black ink. Together with: Letter from the Ambassade de France à Londres, Paul Cambon, dated 11th July 1903, informing Sir John that he has been selected for the award. This initialled by the recipient “Ackd. JF 12/7.”, folded, near fine £200-300
