M.I.D. London Gazette 23 May 1946. ‘Captain, 6th Lancers, Indian Army’. ‘For gallant and distinguished services in the Mediterranean theatre’.

George Neville Rees was born on 17 March 1921. After serving 219 days in the ranks he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Indian Army on 18 January 1941. He was promoted a War Substantive Lieutenant in July 1942 and was an Acting Captain , May-August 1944 and Temporary Captain, August 1944-August 1946. He was appointed a Lieutenant in the 3rd Hussars in September 1943 and advanced to Captain in March 1948.
