Frank Henry Church was born in Deal on 15 February 1899. He enlisted into the R.M.L.I. in February 1916. He was discharged after completing his period of service in March 1929. He served on H.M.S. Clio, October 1919-August 1920, during which time he qualified for the ‘Somaliland 1920’ clasp and was one of the 122 who qualified for the ‘Iraq 1919-1920’ clasp for service with the river gunboats within Iraq during the period 1 July-17 November 1920. One of only seven Royal Marine recipients of these two clasps.
