Bernard Henry Frederick Leumann was born on 20 January 1869. He qualified as a M.R.C.S. in 1892, L.R.C.P. London in 1892, M.B. London in 1893 and D.H.P. Cambridge. Entering the Indian Medical Service, serving with the Bombay Infantry, he was commissioned a Surgeon-Lieutenant on 29 January 1894 and was advanced to Surgeon-Captain on 29 January 1897. The author of
Micro-organisms Pathogenic to Man in 1897. Surgeon-Captain Leumann died in London on 7 January 1901 after seeing active service in the Boer War.
