M.C. London Gazette 16 September 1918. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Finding the flanks of his battalion had gone, he organised a defensive flank with his battery under heavy shell and machine gun fire. He did splendid work’.

Lieutenant Henry Hans L’Estrange, 9th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment served in France/Flanders from 16 June 1916 to 11 November 1918. Employed with the Trench Mortar Battery from 20 March 1918; promoted to Captain on 16 April 1918. Copy m.i.c. reveals that duplicate medals were issued in March 1939. Captain H. H. l’Estrange possibly related to Captain T. J. l’Estrange (see lot 538) - the medals acquired at the same time
