Ashton, Iraq Levies, 1936), 41mm., silver; Egypt Command Small Arms Meeting Medallion, obv. inscribed, ‘1930’, rev. inscribed, ‘Individual Championship, 9th, 2/Lieut. J. O. M. Ashton, 1st. Bn. James Orme Mornini Ashton was born on 15 October 1908. He was commissioned into the Welsh Guards in August 1928, promoted to Lieutenant in August 1931 and Captain in October 1936. Employed with the Iraq Levies, 7 December 1935-19 April 1938. Ashton held the rank of Acting Major, January-April 1940 and Temporary Major, April 1940. Promoted to Major in August 1945, he held the ranks of Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel, November 1945 and Temporary Colonel, April 1948. Sold with copied research including details of the Wakefield Medal winning team of 1936 led by Lieutenant J. O. M. Ashton.
