Four: Gunner D. A. G. Foord, South African Artillery, who was taken P.O.W. at Tobruk, 20 June 1942

Daniel Anthony George Foord was born in Somerset West on 24 August 1917. An Electrician by occupation, he attested for service in the Coast Artillery Brigade on 2 September 1939 and was posted to the 1st Heavy Battery of the Cape Garrison Artillery, S.A.A. On 11 April 1940 he attested for service in the Union Defence Force. He served with the 4th Battery 2nd Anti-Aircraft Brigade from 1 August 1940 and with the 2nd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, S.A.A., from 21 April 1941. He disembarked at Mombasa in September 1940 and at Suez in September 1941. Gunner Foord was captured at Tobruk on 20 June 1942. He was held as a prisoner-of-war at Campo 54 at Fara-in-Sabina. near Rome and at Stalag 7A at Moosburg. He was released on 4 May 1945. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
