Francis John William Skinner was born on 22 March 1879. Living at 73 Olive Road, Plaistow, and a Clerk by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Flying Corps in July 1916. Serving as an Airman/Private 1st Class in the R.F.C. and thence the the R.A.F., he was promoted to Corporal in December 1918. He served in the 44th Balloon Section and latterly the 2nd Balloon Wing. He was demobilized in 1919. Sold with recipient’s identity discs (2) ‘41256 Skinner, F. J. W., R.F.C., C.E.’; white metal identity bracelet, ‘F. J. W. Skinner, 41256, C.E., R.F.C.’; whistle on a chain; original Certified Copy of Attestation; original R.A.F. Demobilization Account Form; R.A.F. (these two torn and repaired); Card of Appreciation (stamped ‘2nd Balloon Wing’) and copied service paper.
