Frederick Henry Beaumont was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire, on 14 June 1897. A Warehouse Boy by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 9 October 1913. Promoted to Boy 1st Class in May 1914, he was serving as such on the light cruiser Amethyst when war broke out. On the same ship he was promoted to Ordinary Seaman in June 1915 and Able Seaman in November 1915, the ship serving with the Grand Fleet during 1914 and in the Mediterranean during 1915. He then served on the destroyer Orford, December 1916-March 1918. Beaumont then transferred to the Submarine Service, being based at Dolphin and Vulcan, serving on R.1, L.9, L.24, H.50., E.48 and H.47 during the period March 1918-March 1927, being advanced to Leading Seaman in 1921. Later awarded the Royal Navy L.S. & G.C. when serving on the cruiser Concord. Sold with copied service paper for the period 1913-28.
