Archibald Luke Pigott was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire on 8 August 1881. A Labourer by occupation, he entered into the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in March 1897. He served on the cruiser Orlando from February 1899, firstly as a Boy 1st Class, then from August as an Ordinary Seaman and then as an Able Seaman from October. The Orlando was involved in the operations in Third China War, from 10 June 1900, for which service Pigott was awarded the China Medal with two clasps. At the start of the Great War Pigott was an Able Seaman on the torpedo boat depot ship Hecla. He was promoted to Leading Seaman on board the ship in March 1916. He attained the rank of Petty Officer in March 1920 when based on the Vernon and was soon after pensioned ashore and joined the R.F.R. in 1922. Sold with copied service papers and roll extract confirming the clasps.
