The Prussian Iron Cross 1870 group of three awarded to Private C. F. Baumann, 8th Württemburg Infantry Regiment

Prussia, Iron Cross 1870, 2nd Class, with 25th Anniversary oak leaves; War Medal 1870-71, 3 clasps, Wörth, Sedan, Paris; Landwehr Long Service Bar, 2nd Class, very fine and better (3) £600-700

Sold with original award document for the Iron Cross, dated Berlin, 19 January 1873, and another for the War Medal 1870-71, dated Strassbourg, 30 November 1871. The former is mounted in a glass-fronted wooden case, 297 x 240mm., upon which are mounted the medals and bar. For decorative effect, four bullion stars, derived from the uniform shoulder boards, are mounted on each corner of the document. The documents are ‘browned’ with age and show signs of damage and repair. Sold with a note which states; ‘Iron Cross is a likely award for Wörth where the Württemburg Field Division was heavily engaged’.
