Naval General Service 1915-62, 1 clasp, Palestine 1945-48 (D/JX.154436 G. H. Gittings, Ldg. Smn., R.N.) extremely fine £90-110

George Henry Gittings was born in the Parish of Ross, Hereford, on 2 July 1921. A Farm Hand by occupation, he volunteered for the Royal Navy on 17 August 1937, and entered into the service as a Boy 2nd Class. Promoted to Ordinary Seaman in July 1939 and Able Seaman in February 1940, both whilst on the battlecruiser Repulse. He served on the destroyer Watchman, December 1940-April 1942 and the aircraft maintainance ship Unicorn, October 1942-April 1947. For his service in the war he was awarded the War Service Chevrons and the 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, Burma Star, clasp, Pacific, Italy Star and War Medal. He was discharged as physically unfit in January 1950. Sold with original parchment Certificate of Service and Conduct Record Sheet.
