Five: Warrant Officer S. E. Nightingale, Royal Air Force

India General Service 1908-35
, 2 clasps, Mohmand 1933, North West Frontier 1935 (358659 Cpl., R.A.F.); India General Service 1936-39, 1 clasp, North West Frontier 1936-37 (358659 Cpl., R.A.F.); Defence and War Medals, the last privately inscribed, ‘358659 W.O. S. E. Nightingale, R.A.F.’; Royal Air Force L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R., 1st issue (358659 Cpl., R.A.F.), the last officially corrected, otherwise good very fine and better, and a rare combination of Medals and clasps (5) £400-500

The recipient is confirmed on the published roll for all of the above described India General Service Medals and clasps, his “Mohmand 1933” entitlement being one of just 180 to Royal Air Force personnel. In fact, he would appear to be one of around only 20 men to qualify for this overall “India combination”.

Nightingale was advanced to Warrant Officer in July 1942.
