Arthur George Marchant, who was born in Islington and enlisted at Highgate, London, originally served as a Private in the Royal Flying Corps (No. 34988), Transferring to the South Staffordshire Regiment at a later date, he was killed in action on 12 October 1917, while serving in the 8th Battalion. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
