Everard Neal Digges-Latouche was born on 12 July and baptised on 24 August 1843 at St. Peter’s, Dublin. He was educated at the Royal School, Armagh. He was first commissioned on 4 July 1861 and served with the 48th Native Infantry from 1861. Promoted to Lieutenant in July 1862, he served with the 11th N.I. in January and the 44th N.I. in October 1863. With the latter he served from November 1864 with the ‘Right Centre’ and ‘Right Columns’ in the Bhootan campaign where two other lieutenants earned the Victoria Cross. Appointed Officiating Assistant Commissioner, Assam, in July 1867; he was promoted to Captain in June 1870. Digges-Latouche attained the rank of Major in July 1881 and was placed on Half Pay on 19 May 1884.

Major Digges-Latouche had two sons, both of whom were killed in the Great War. Lieutenant Everard Latouche, 2nd Battalion Australian Infantry, was one of 492 ANZAC officers and other ranks killed at
Lone Pine, Gallipoli, in August 1915. His brother, Lieutenant Averill Latouche, 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, was killed a month later at the Battle of Loos in September 1915.
